Big Hit Productions

Big Hit Productions is an idea that film needs to change. Scott and I categorically reject nearly everything that has been taught to us as filmmakers. To put the philosophy simply – you can’t get anywhere by playing by the rules. Big Hit Productions is a company founded on marijuana smoking, plain and simple; and while Scott and myself will spend days arguing with you about how drugs like caffeine and nicotine are much more dangerous than this herb, that is not the point. The name of this company comes from the clarity that you get after a massive hit from a bong, when your eyes are watering and you are coughing up a lung. At that moment (which may last for one or several seconds) you have clarity. Now the clarity may be that you are about to fail calculus, or that she really doesn’t love you... but at that instance with your lungs burning and your eyes watering... you know it is the truth. We wish to bring that level of illumination to people in the cinema. A film by Big Hit is a bowl of the dankest, stankest weed your homey can get ya. Just as the hit is unapologetic, so are we. We often get “advice” that sounds like this: “you guys are kind of talented but all the marijuana references are hurting your career”... that shit is laughable. If you have a problem with weed references then how will you handle the pot shots we will take at President Bush? Or the litany of profanities that I lace in each line of dialogue. The Big Hit logo is a warning and a promise. It is an uncompromising vision to completely invert the paradigm, to flip da script on these bitches. It’s not about film school, or lattes or connections or the trendiness of your script. It’s about an attitude that people can count on. You can be assured that Scott and Marcus will always be provocative and are quite dangerous in front of an open mic. There are no delusions of coke, and hookers, and SUV’s and three picture deals. We wish to let all these other people know that they suck... and that we are the shit. Ok that’s a little bit arrogant and I promised a certain individual that I would work on my humility so let me rephrase that. We believe that our contemporaries are afraid to take real artistic chances in either shooting form or dialogue. We believe that most of our peers view filmmaking as an occupation; for us it is all that matters. Ask our ex-girlfriends and our parents, there is nothing that will stop Scott and myself from shooting. Big Hit Productions has the mission of giving generation X subjectivity. We wish to make their plight and their demographic visible as characters in the cinema. Additionally, we cast real women. The females in Hollywood represent less than 4% of the planets population (demographically) and that to me is rather absurd. Furthermore, BHP always has strong female characters for two basic reasons. That’s the type of woman I respect, and that is the type of woman that is absent from Hollywood narratives. While the rest of the yahoos wish to sell women chick flicks and demeaning introspections on why it’s hard to find a man... we give them three dimensional characters who make the decisions that the females of other scripts are forbidden to think about. Also, since Hollywood likes to put female actors out to pasture when they are about 35... that means that some of the most qualified and experienced actors in the business are disenfranchised. If BHP is the sole entity committed to writing and shooting roles for real women (a majority of which are over thirty) then BHP will have not only its “pick of the litter” but if successful, will force other production companies to act accordingly to gain market share. And that is all we really want, a level playing field with diversity. |
